In a busy world, it’s too easy to forget the simple things: Please and thank you; fill the gas tank; and look both ways before crossing the street. Simple things that matter greatly.
John Wesley understood that Christian living required remembering the simple things, so he developed his “Three Simple Rules” for Christian living. On November 9, 16, and 23, we’ll examine those three rules for the practical wisdom they offer. The first rule is “Do no harm.” Sounds simple but we know how difficult it is to live out. The rule is familiar to medical professionals but what does it mean for faithful Christian living? Jesus warned his followers not to be stumbling blocks. The Supremes would later sing, “Stop, in the name of love.” What are the actions and attitudes we may need to stop, in the name of love, in order to do no harm?
